The Evan Lindberg and Erik Ludwinski College Scholarship Program for Childhood Cancer Survivors

The EVAN Foundation proudly provides college scholarships to graduating high school seniors who have survived a high-risk pediatric cancer and been accepted into a 4-year undergraduate institution. We are honored to support the next generation of leaders who will show the world that cancer is no match for the courage of survivors and the legacy of those we have lost.

In 2025, the Evan Lindberg & Erik Ludwinski College Scholarship Program will award three $2,500 scholarships. Winners will be announced on July 1st. Each scholarship will be renewed annually, if the program’s award criteria are met. This allows for a total of $10,000 in support for 4 years of undergraduate coursework for each winner.

Evan and Erik passed away from neuroblastoma in 2010, Evan at 7 years old and Erik at 24 years old. Erik was in college when he passed, and Evan would currently be in college. Both were brimming with potential and destined to do great things. This program honors them and their enduring legacy.

Relatives and friends of The EVAN Foundation Scholarship Committee and Board of Directors are not eligible. Recipients will be selected without regard to race, religion, gender identification, sexual orientation, physical disability, ethnicity or national origin. Students undergoing treatment as well as those who have completed treatment are eligible to apply.

Scholarship award recipients will be notified on July 1.

Application Period Closes: May 1, 2025

Scholarships Awarded: July 1, 2025

Payment will be made directly to the college or university.

Evan Lindberg

Evan loved monster trucks, dressing like and playing characters, exploring, school and his friends. He was wise, brave and compassionate beyond his years. He was diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma at the age of 3 in 2006. After a 4 year battle that defined courage, treatment failed him at the age of 7 in 2010. Evan would have been in college now and destined to do great things. His spirit lives on in the work of The EVAN Foundation.

Erik Ludwinski

Erik loved Jesus, adventure, skateboarding, breakdancing, and snowboarding. He always looked for those on the sidelines to draw in and cared deeply for everyone he encountered. He was first diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma in 1991 at the age of 6 and relapsed at 20 while in college. He fought for almost 5 years and died at 24 in 2010, in his last semester, receiving his degree in computer science summa cum laude, posthumously.

Eligibility Requirements

  • US citizen

  • Entering freshmen are eligible to apply

  • High school transcript and FAFSA Student Aid Report (Page 1) including SAI

  • ACT or SAT results if required by your college for acceptance

  • Confirmation of college enrollment in a US accredited undergraduate institution

  • Letter from your healthcare provider confirming your high-risk cancer diagnosis

  • Two letters of recommendation from non-family members addressed to or including The EVAN Foundation name and or the name of the scholarship

  • 250-word essay describing what you want the scholarship committee to know about you, your plans for college and beyond

  • All documents should be submitted in pdf format or as a Word document

  • Virtual interview with EVAN Foundation scholarship committee for finalists

  • Preferred, but not required, experience advocating or volunteering for childhood cancer causes

  • If selected, agree to allow The EVAN Foundation to share your name and picture

  • If selected, agree to provide The EVAN Foundation with a short video about the impact of the scholarship on you or your college career
